Human Medical Skeleton (593-10-G01)
This real human skeleton is for sale to medical professionals only.
This skeleton was purchased from Ritchie’s Auction Company in downtown Toronto in November 2012. The skeleton was on offer during the sale of Billy Jamieson’s collection. The skeleton did not come from Billy’s estate, but was found in a doctor’s home office. When the doctor died about 50 years ago, the room was closed up and left untouched. The skeleton was only discovered when the house was being renovated.
Our best guess is that the skeleton originated in India in the 1940s or 1950s. India and China were two countries known for exporting real human skeletons as anatomical models. Since the 1980s, it has been illegal to export real human bones from India and China stopped exporting human bones and skeletons in 2008 right before the summer Olympics started.
This skeleton is from the body of a woman based on the size and shape of the pelvis. It is missing several front teeth, the distal phalanx of the right pinky toe, and the coccyx and there is some damage to the shoulder blades. There is strong demand for these real skeletons as they are rarely come up for sale on the market anymore.
